Hearts of Iron IV

Hearts of iron IV, is a Paradox grand strategy game, that puts players in one of the greatest conflicts in history the second world war.

You can play or join 3 factions : The Allies, The Axis and The Comintern or you can make your own faction and conquer the world.  The game itself can be played as a-historically or as historically as you want and has 2 start dates,  one in 1936 and another in 1939. The first one, where you can build up your country first, or if you would like to just jump into the game, do the 1939 start date which just leaves you a few months before the outbreak of the second world war. The game also has a host of countries to play as, that had existed during the second world war.

The game itself, is very deep, as it requires you to research, put admirals on your fleets, put aces on your air fleets, add commanders to your armies, build factories and much more. Now the major downside to the game is the sheer lag that happens as when you get to 1944 or 1945, or even 1943, although I have a decent laptop, it drops down to around 12-17 FPS.

Now, another broken mechanic is paratroopers, as we can see in the image above, all this person used is Paratroopers and infantry divisions. To capitulate the U.K, now he/she did this by either
1. Para-dropping into all major cities or
2. Para dropping into a port and then sending his entire army to mass assault the U.K and overrun them.
Now, some of you out there may see this as a mechanic, and others may agree with me, but this is just my opinion on how the paratroopers in the game are broken.

The game can also be modified with mods, you can make your own or use the steam workshop. Mods in this game may change the time and setting, a great example of this is the Great War mod, as it puts you either in 1910 or 1914 and during the First World War. Other mods may seek to expand research and other things, an example of this is the Road to 56 mod.

Now sadly, in my opinion anyway the game is slightly lacking, as the critical features, such as subject integration and licensing production, require DLC which cost about $5 each.
