During Conner McGregor UFC successful  MayWeather told Freddie Roach to train McGregor for the fight.The rumors of the fight with Mayweather was cancelled Because Conor Mcgregor was still in UFC.  In January 2017,The president of UFC offered to pay Mayweather $25 million to fight Connor McGregor. 

Mayweather expected to dominate in the early stages of the fioght, but McGregor started strong and was ahead of Mayweather for the first few rounds, due to Mayweather using the rope-a-dope technique in the early stages. As the fight progressed, McGregor weakened, to the point of exhaustion. In rounds 9 and 10, Mayweather landed a series of brutal punches to McGregor's face, and referee Robert Byrd eventually called off the fight in favor of Mayweather after McGregor was unable to counter and defend himself due to fatigue.

Post-match, Mayweather revealed that he had expected McGregor to be a fast starter, and had purposely took his heavy blows early on the match. However, McGregor was rather disappointed by what he saw as an interference by the referee, but his decision. Former boxers such as George Foreman and Evander Holyfield, who saw the match, was impressed with McGregor's boxing skills and the competitiveness of the fight. Foreman even claimed that experts who criticized the fight "should apologize because “It was competitive". Mike Tyson gave McGregor an "A grade" for his performance, stating he was impressed. The fight was praised for its entertaining and exciting nature, especially when compared to Mayweather's most recent bouts.
